Haberdashers' Advantage at Hatcham Primary
Our pupils have a world of opportunities at their fingertips through our unique character curriculum: The Haberdashers' Advantage.
Thanks to our staff, the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, our community, and our many partners, the Haberdashers experience for every pupil is like no other. By giving them this advantage, we support our pupils to be happy, confident and successful individuals who will contribute to making their communities – and the world – a better place.
The Hatcham Primary Haberdashers’ Advantage develops the individual character of our students through our school values, which fall under four pillars: moral, civic, performance and intellectual. To ensure equitable opportunities for our students the curriculum is focussed on three key areas:
- Taught – opportunities to teach our Trust values and character pillars
- Caught - policies and procedures that embody our Trust values and character pillars
- Sought – opportunities to get involved in experiences and opportunities that differentiate students

Hatcham Primary Haberdashers’ Advantage Curriculum at Hatcham Primary
Our wider school offer, from personalised parts of the curriculum to enrichment clubs before, after and during school, provides experiences that allow our pupils to be well-rounded individuals enabling them to flourish and enjoy rich experiences and opportunities beyond the day-to-day life. Our children leave primary school culturally aware and equipped to access the global society we live in.
We provide our children with the opportunity to engage in activities in school and outside of school that they may not necessarily have access to outside of school e.g. piano, guitar, cello, and violin lessons, football, fitness, tennis, capoeira, arts and crafts, cooking, debate, yoga, photography, Science club, multi-sports, dance, sewing and roller skating, orchestra, jazz band. We are building not only pupils who can achieve academically but also pupils with character.
Our school’s thoughtful and wide-ranging promotion of pupils’ uniqueness, cultural development and physical well-being enables them to thrive in a supportive, highly cohesive learning community.
Haberdashers' Advantage CurriculumHaberdashers' Hatcham Leadership programme
We recognise that our children are the leaders of the future and promote a range of opportunities where children can develop their leadership skills whilst also learning about the importance of democracy. We encourage all children to embrace the wide range of opportunities available to them valuing their voice, ideas and opinions and empowering them to help shape our school development.
Some of our pupil leadership roles are long-standing, such as Head Boy and Girl, and House Captains. Other roles have emerged from the children themselves, such as the Eco Warriors, as a result of their own interests and desires to see action.

Head Girl and Head Boy
Deputy Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy
|
Our Head Girl and Head Boy are the most senior of our pupil leaders. Pupils in Year 5 write a letter of application for the role, outlining their reasons for applying and why they see the role as important. This application process in itself is an important leadership skill.
Our Head Girl and Head Boy take part in Deputation Day, eating lunch with our Trustees.

House Captains Vice Captains |
We run a house system and Year 6 children are elected as House Captains to represent our 4 houses. There are also three Vice House Captains.
Our House Captains take part in some very important tasks, such as showing visitors around the school, particularly prospective parents so that they can share life at Hatcham Primary. House and Vice House Captains also run our ‘House Challenges’, leading and explaining the activities to the rest of the school. |
Fighting Against Bullying Ambassadors |
Our ten FAB ambassadors work hard to help their peers regulate and talk through issues that may have come up in the playground. These ambassadors understand the importance of their role in helping their peers to see both sides. They also conduct assemblies on bullying. |
Eco Warriors |
Our Eco Warriors take pride in our school and see littering as a serious problem. They take it in turns to clear litter during lunchtime. |
Wellbeing Ambassadors |
These are new leadership roles within the school. Pupils are currently applying for these positions, and will work with the PSHE and Wellbeing lead to devise the role of the Wellbeing Ambassadors on supporting the needs of their fellow peers. |
